PITTSFIELD, MA: On July 8th an exhibition of over 20 visual artists from in and around Berkshire County will open at the Storefront Artist Project Mainspace at 124 Fenn Street. Titled “Selections from the Cultural Corridor,” the show is curated by artist Peter Dudek, Storefront summer resident 2004-5. Based in both NYC and the Berkshires, Dudek teaches at the School of Visual Arts and Hunter College in NYC. He is also the founder of Archicule.com, a website that promotes the architectural work and services of artists.

Containing paintings, sculptures, drawings and photographs this exhibition will gather the widest possible range of activity by visual artists who live and/or work in the region. The Berkshires is a vital part of the Cultural Corridor that has been forming between New York City and southern Vermont. New artists have gathered here in recent years amplifying and broadening the artistic mix of an already culturally rich area.

As the host of this diverse miscellany the Storefront Project continues in its role of providing an outlet for contemporary art presented in a casual and accessible setting. In addition to the exhibition there will be poetry readings by area writers Geoffrey Young (Wed. July 19, 7:30), Phil Timpane & Richard Zukowski (Wed. July 26, 7:30) and a film & video night at the studio of Nicole Peskin on August 2.

The line up of artists includes:
Peter Acheson, Peter Barret, Peter Count, Carl D'Alvia, Richard Deon, Peter Dudek, Chris Duncan, Bart Elsbach, Tara Fracalossi, Susan Hartung, Erick Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Clemens Kalischer, Phil Knoll, David Lachman, Thom Lail, Maggie Mailer, Sue Muskat, Nicole Peskin, Jon Piasecki, Noah Post, Oona Ratcliffe, Jackie Saccoccio, Katia Santibanez, Keith Shaw, James Siena, Emily Silver, Elena Sisto, Monika Sosnowski, Barbara Takenaga, Nicolas Touron, Ruth Waldman

STOREFRONT ARTIST PROJECT
The mission of the Storefront Artist Project is to give artists an ongoing presence in the public mind. This goal is addressed in three ways. The first is by helping to provide nontraditional, visually accessible studio space for artists; the second is through community outreach, bringing artists and artmaking to under-served and diverse members of the community. The third is through the presentation of innovative public events and installations ranging from performances to open studios and gallery exhibitions. The Storefront Artist Project, in contributing to the health of its hometown community, seeks to establish itself as a model for revitalization in any city.

The Mainspace Gallery hours for “Selections from the Cultural Corridor” are: Friday-Sunday, noon – 5pm. The show runs July 8 – August 5, 2006
