Karen Arp-Sandel
Health is the Journey; $200; mixed media assemblage
Karen Arp-Sandel is an artist and arts educator who teaches art for children at IS183, Art School of the Berkshires and has also taught art MASS MoCA, the Norman Rockwell Museum, and the Mountain Road School in New Lebanon, NY. A former resident of Pittsfield, she now lives in Canaan, NY, where she maintains a studio at home. Her paintings, prints, and collages are in private collections in the US and Europe.

Lesley Beck
Reconstruction; $350; cotton fabrics, batting, thread, buttons, found objects
Lesley Ann Beck is a fiber artist who holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She has exhibited her work at the Berkshire Museum, the Norman Rockwell Museum, IS183, Art School of the Berkshires, Santarella, and galleries in the Berkshires, New Jersey, and Louisiana. She lives and works in Pittsfield.

Morris Bennett
Spreading Hope; $800; oil on canvas
Morris Bennett is a longtime resident of Pittsfield and a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. He paints in a studio in his home and shares his expertise with others through teaching art in the community.

Diana Gala
Pink Sky; $750; oil on canvas
A resident of Lenox, Diana Gala holds a master's degree in fine art from SUNY Albany, a bachelor's degree in fine art from UMass Amherst, and also studied at Cooper Union Art School in New York City. Her works are in the collection of SUNY Albany, Art Museum and in private collections.

Paul Graubard
The Herring Lady; $800; charcoal and pastel
Paul Graubard's work was recently added to the permanent collection of the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, MD, his most recent solo show was at the Revolving Museum in Lowell, MA, and his work was featured at Tanglewood this summer. A long and lively life -- including work as a card shark, factory worker, waiter, hot dog vendor, army medic, elementary and jr. high teacher, college professor, author, and psychologist -- all led up to his true calling when he began to draw in 1996 and became a full time painter in 1998. Alan Hayes

Alan Hayes was born an albino hillbilly kid in Columbus, Ohio and raised by socialist parents on a defunct goldfish farm in western New York. Hayes has been photographing in a serious way for about four years, and tends to work in series concentrating on a subject, photographing it voluminously and obsessively. He is currently finishing a three year long project centered on cars and roads, much of it shot while driving. Other current projects include a study of carnivals and county fairs.


Jeanet Ingalls

Jeanet Ingalls was born in the Phillipines and grew up in the Berkshires. She maintains a studio on North Street in Pittsfield where she works with a variety of media.

Colleen Surprise Jones

A native of Berkshire County, Colleen Surprise Jones is an emotionally driven artist who usually works in the abstract. Solo exhibitions include "Psychiatric Survival" at the Cooper Center Gallery, Pittsfield, and "Balancing Out" in Lee. She recently curated a group show entitled "Throat Culture." and maintains a studio on North Street in Pittsfield.

Fern Leslie

Fern Leslie is a fiber artist whose main medium is fabric, which she embellishes with yarn, beads, stones, and other man-made and natural objects. She has a studio on North Street in Pittsfield.

Maggie Mailer

Maggie Mailer is a painter living and working in Pittsfield. In 2002 she founded the Storefront Artist Project. She is represented by Ferrin Gallery in Lenox, MA.

Kelly Meisl
Bleeding Heart; $300; acrylic on canvas
Kellie Meisl is an artist who uses her dreams as a springboard for her paintings. She co-led "Casting the Heroine," an art and healing workshop for women with breast cancer earlier this year with Connie Mah, and is a dream circle leader who has trained with Sandra Ingerman, The Monroe Institute, Robert Moss and Joyce Morris. A lifelong resident of Pittsfield, she wishes to share her insight with those in search of meaning through the medium of art.

Ellen Metropole

Ellen Metropole lives and works in Pittsfield, where she recently served on the Pittsfield Cultural Council for two terms. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Education from the University of Denver and a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum Design from the Maharishi University of Management.

Anne Pasko
When Will It Ever End?; $1,200; mixed media collage
Anne Pasko is a relatively new artist who loves to experiment with new materials, methods, colors, and textures. She was the founder and manager of Pasko Frame & Gallery in downtown Pittsfield for 22 years and now spends her time doing community work and maknig art.

Jude Patoka
It's Still Life 1/8; $400; cotton fabrics, batting, buttons
Jude Patoka is an award-winning quilt artist who lives and works in Pittsfield. She wrote of her piece: "The drinking gourd vessel holding the seven abstract fruits/breasts is one that dips life-giving waters from the well of life. The fruit/breast that has fallen outside is symbolic of the eighth woman (one out of every eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer.) Living with and surviving breast cancer is still life. This quilt is dedicated to my friend Kathy and all the women who fought with valor."

Anne Roland

A longtime resident of Pittsfield, Anne Roland graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. She loves the meditative aspects of working with colored pencil, and is acclaimed for her mastery of the medium.

Gabrielle Senza

Gabrielle Senza has exhibited throughout the United States and Europe since 1989. Public and private collections include the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Lifetime Corporation, and Fidelity Investments. She has received grants form the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation and the Puffin Foundation for her work as founder and director of Red Collaborative.

Rosemary Starace

Rosemary Starace is a painter who lives and works in Pittsfield. Exiled from her drafty studio during a recent too-cold winter, she took up computer drawing in her warm house, with wonderful results!

Janis Theodore

Janis Theodore is an accomplished artist who has exhibited nationally and won numerous awards. She holds B.F.A. and M.F.A degrees in painting, and is represented by galleries in New York City, Boston, and New Hampshire. A new resident of Pittsfield who maintains a studio in her home, she offers private art lessons. She has over 25 years art teaching experience at UMass Boston, Smith College, The University of New Hampshire, Montserrat College of Art, and Indiana University.

Douglass Truth is a self-taught painter and writer who live and works in in Pittsfield. He is represented by galleries in Connecticut, New York City, Tucson, and California, as well as the Berkshires, and his motto is "I never met a color I didn't like." His website is here.

Joe Wheaton

Joe Wheaton is a sculptor and photographer who lived and worked in Pittsfield for many years before moving to a renovated barn in Becket. He is represented by the Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY; the Haddad Lascano Gallery in Great Barrington, MA; his website is here.

Jojo Whilden
Elephant Lady; $250; color c-print
Jojo Whilden is a New York based photographer and video artist. Her work was featured in the film, High Art. She holds a master's degree in photography from New York University and the International Center for Photography. She maintains a studio in Brooklyn, and is represented by ClampArt in New York City, and has also shown at the Jack Tilton Gallery in New York. Her most recent group show was at the Center for Photography in Woodstock, NY.
