Pittsfield came to life for the month of October when HayMan took over! 95 life sized scarecrows filled North Street. They are displayed in storefronts, sidewalks, in the median strip, trees, planters, and a few surprise locations!
October 5- 31
HayMan is a community event, sponsored by the Berkshire Bank Foundation and a partnership with the Storefront Artist Project. The goal of HayMan is to create a free, fun, community event where groups of people have the opportunity to build a “scarecrow” that will be displayed in public for the month of October in Downtown Pittsfield. The life-sized figures are built out of tree limbs, hay, and twine, and dressed and posed in any way the builder(s) decided. The figures will be on display in a variety of public venues, from storefront spaces, sidewalks, and public benches, to windows, trees and a few surprise locations. HayMan will take place from October 5 - 31.
The figures and concept are based on the work of Plainfield Artist Mike Melle, who will be instructing a group of artist/trainers and the community in technique and structure. Mike will also have a number of his scarecrows displayed downtown.
